FIFA World Cup-Top 5 team that eliminated in the group stage

1. MOROCCO

Being placed in a death group, Morocco team had to do their best to make the next round. But hardwork wasn't enough for the team to succeed in the group stage. The team is deemed as one of the unluckiest performers in the event.

Everything was in favor of the Morocco team in their match against Iran. With a 68%to 32% ball possession and 5-2 corners, Morocco team dominated in all sections of the match. But an unexpected self goal in the injury time caused a match for the team. Their next bout in the tournament was against CR7 led Portugal team. The team came back strongly after a disastrous loss in the opening match. Nordin Amrabat and Younes Belhanda's attacks were deadly for the Portuguese goal keeper. Even statistics were favored the Morocco, but Morocco was unable to recover from the head goal of Cristiano Ronaldo, resulted a 1-0 loss over the team. In their final bout against Spin team in the group stage, Morocco team finally shook the nets. Khlaid Baoutaib's 14 minute goal and Nesyri's goal in the second half was shocking for the Spanish side. But an equalizer from Lago Aspas in the extra time clinched their dream of  World cup victory.

2. SERBIA

SERBIA

Serbian team placed in the Group E with Brazil, Costa Rica  and Switzerland as the competitors. Although had a tough bout from Brazil, Serbian team looked as the competitor for the 2nd place in the group stage.

A 1-0 win over the Costa Rica in the opening match boosted their team confidence. Alexander Koralov's 56th minute goal aided the win. A win against Switzerland was a sure shot for their next round token. After a tie in the given time, Serbia conceded a goal in the extra time and resulted the match in a victory favoring Switzerland team. Their 2-0 defeat against Brazil took their hope for the qualification of the round of 16.

Although Serbian team had centre-backs Branislav Ivanovic and Sergej Milinkovic-Savic in the team, for the Serbian team round of 16 was a tough nut to crack.

3. POLAND

POLAND

The Poland team had a disastrous outing at Russia. Placed in a average group comprising of Senegal, Japan and Colombia, Adam Nawałka boys seemed to be a group favorites. But the World Cup has assumed something bitter for the team.

In their first group stage match against  Senegal, Poland team faced an unforeseen defeat from the African champions. Their next clash in the group stage was between Columbia and a 3-0 upset put an end to their next round hopes. In their last group stage match against Japan, Poland team won the match for a 1-0 margin with the courtesy of a 59 minute goal from Jan Bednarek.

Robert Lewandowski was the key player for the side. But his presence in the striking department wasn't enough to secure a win for the team. 

4. EGYPT

EGYPT

Although making their World Cup after a 28 year waiting, Egypt was one of the round of 16 favorites from Group A. But their final positions were a tragedy. The team defeated in all of their 3 outings at Russia.

The team seems mostly expected a defeat from the well built Uruguayan team. A 1-0 defeat put the Egyptian team to a do or die situation in the remaining two matches. But a 3-1 thrash from the hosts ended their round of 16 chances. A win in the final match against Saudi Arabia was necessary to satisfy their die hard fans. But all ended up in an upset facing a 2-1 defeat.

Heavy dependence on their star player, Mohammed Salah was the foremost reason of the exit.  Egypt team scored 2 goals in the tournament and both were from the foots of the striker. 

5. GERMANY

GERMANY

Group stage exits of defending Champions has been a trend in last few World Cup occasions. Germany team are the latest victim of this curse. 

Being placed in the Group F, Germany squad looked like the group favorites. But an unexpected defeat from the puny South Korea caused a early group stage thrash. The Germany team faced Mexico in the first match of the group stage. A 1-0 defeat in the match put Manuel Neuer and team under pressure. 

But Marco Reus and Tony Kroos showcased their strength against Sweden resulted  2-1 victory.  But in their must win match against South Korea, Germany team faced grief in the extra time caused a 2-0 defeat.
