Both records were born in single match. In the 2015th West Indies tour of South Africa, ABD blasted a 149 runs from just 44 balls. His half century was from just 16 balls and broke the previous record of Jayasurya. His ton was from just 31 balls and thrashed 36 ball record of Corey Anderson. The innings was considered as one of the ferocious innings of the decade. His innings included 16 maximums and 9 fours.

West Indies once again witnessed an aggressive innings by the great ABD. In the 2015 World Cup, he blasted an unbeaten 162 at Melbourne against the Caribbeans. de Villiers is had a strike rate of 101.10 in ODIs. This is the highest for a South African batsmen. It is also third highest in the International cricket, with Shahid Afridi being the most aggressive(117.0). Indian opener, Virender Sehwag had a strike rate of 104.33 and placed second in the list. But it is a fact that de Villiers is the best among the three. His average was 53.50 contrast Afridi's 23.57 and Viru's 35.05.
