Features of Android P
Android P was announced in the Month of March by Google and the developer preview of the Operating System was produced in the same day. Later on May 8, in the Google's I/O 2018 Keynote event the second preview was presented. Beta 2, the third preview was scheduled on June 6 and garnered a lot of positive reviews from the tech world. The Beta version is available in the native Pixel devices along with some selected flagship devices.
Google has improved its navigation feature in the latest Android P version. It has included much awaited Wi-Fi Round-Trip-Time (RTT). Using this feature, we can find the exact position were we are. In the sense, if you are in a mall and you want to find a particular shop in the mall, Android P will smoothen the task by showing you the exact location.
Gesture Navigation will be yet another service from Android P. Google has inspired a lot from the same iPhone X feature.In this feature instead of 3 buttons on the home screen, a single button will do all the duties like viewing recent apps, suggested apps etc.
The Dashboard Feature
As the interest towards the smartphones has been increased, Google seems to give a control on the use. The Dashboard feature makes the point more cleared. There may be some scenarios which the user sticked to some tasks on the phone. Using Dashboard feature we will get some data's regarding our phone usage. A Pie chart will indicate that how much time we spent with the phone. Other details provided by Android P are:
- Weekly data's about the phone usage.
- No. of Scenarios were the user unlocked the device.
- Total count of the notifications arrived etc.
App Time Feature and DND mode
A feature which is similar to the Dashboard feature. In the App Time feature, the phone tracks the usage of each app. The user can set up a particular time and when the scheduled time surpasses, the App automatically stops based on your settings. So this feature will favor in not getting addicted to some apps.
A Do Not Disturb Mode has been improved in the latest Android P version. In the Oreo version, the device just mutes all the call related functions. But in the latest, along with the mentioned feature, it also hides the popup notifications. The "Shush mode" makes the DND feature much more easier and flexible.
Wind Down and App Actions
Wind Down feature is yet another feature regarding the users health. In this the phone automatically switches to the Do Not Disturb mode based on your preferred bedtime. You just need to select the sleeping time and the phone will let you know by fading the screen.
App Actions will provide suggestions based on your phone habits. For example, if you swapped between two apps for more time, Android P will notice it and recommend the next app, when you use the other.
Slices and Lockdown mode
A handy feature from the Android P. In this feature, rather than opening the app fully, it allows you to perform the basic activities of that application. For example, if you want to book a ride with Uber, Just search in the google and a slice will display in a part screen and lets you book the cab without opening the app.
Google has concerned more on user-friendly security feature of Android P. The "Enter Lockdown" button is an excellent example for the statement. Once this feature is enabled, the device blocks the finger print unlocking mode and uses only in the baffling situations.
Notification Channels and Improved Messaging Apps
The Notification Channels has been improved a lot in the Android P. Instead of showing every notifications, it will give an option to hide the unnecessary notifications. Whenever the user dismisses a particular notification, the device records it and when similar notification arrives, device will show it up with a red minus popup. Once you tapped on the sign, two options will be arrived, “Stop notifications” or “Keep showing” and pick the necessary based on your preference.
Messaging Apps has been modified a lot in Android P. We can view the images from the messaging apps by just sliding down the notification shade. A quick reply feature will make the conversations a lot more easier.
Easy Screenshots and Auto Rotation
Taking screen shots has been a little tougher in the previous Android versions. Use of volume buttons made the task much more complex. But in Android P, the task was lessen with screen shot button has added to the power button. Screen shot editor makes the editing, sharing task much more easier.
Auto rotate feature makes the Android P much more handy. When your device is rotated to an orientation mode an auto rotate button appears in the navigation bar and you can select the best based on your preference.
Ambient Display and Adaptive Battery
Android P will give you ambient display and will show the current time and notifications without navigating to the main screen. It also shows the battery charge percentage on the ambient display.
An adaptive battery will give you excellent battery life. The phone tracks the battery consumption of each app and will give you the best out of your battery.
