Kolkata Knight Riders IPL 2018 Preparation

Kolkata Knight Riders will play their first match of IPL 2018 on 8th April against Royal Chellengers Bangalore. The team failed to retain some of their star players for the current season. Gautham Gambhir who led the struggled Kolkata to 2 IPL titles will not part of the team this year. Manish Pandey, Yusuf Pathan are some other star players who will miss the team this season. Dinesh Karthik was appointed as the new captain for the team. The wicket keeping batsmen doesn't have any remarkable prior experience in this role. Kolkata has retained only Sunil Narine and Andre Russell to the team. Mitchell Starc's injury was a big blow for the team. Shah Rhukh Khan owned team looks weaker, when it comes to the availability of domestic experienced players.

Kolkata Knight Riders made their first practice session on 19th March. New skipper Dinesh Karthik and coach Jacques Kallis were not available in the initial sessions. In their absence, Andrian Le Roux trained the team. Vice captain Robin Uthappa along with some domestic talents were present in the session.They continued their sessions on 22nd and 23rd March. Players later on 25th March had some gym sessions at Rush Fitness. In their following days, they had some camp interaction with Star Sports. On 27th they finished their gym sessions. West Indies all-rounder Andre Russell, who is one of the retained player made his arrival to the Kolkata camp on 28th March. And showed his confidence to the team, by saying "Don't worry, I am  here". On the next day he joined the Kolkata camp and enjoyed some warm up sessions. On 31st, Kolkata made their arrival to Eden Gardens and on 1st April, they again started the practice sessions in the presence of captain Dinesh Karthik and Jacques Kallis. The youngsters and experienced players had some good interactions. On the same day, Knight's launched their new jersey. Kolkata announced their new recruit and added, Tom Curran will replace injured Starc in the IPL. The England all rounder shared his excitement through twitter on this news. Kolkata continued their training sessions at Eden Gardens with most of the players present. They played some friendly matches with DKXI and Robin XI, led by captain and vice captain.  

Although, Kolkata won 2 title reigns, now the team lacks some batsmen's to produce fireworks for the team. Robin Uthappa, Chris Lynn, Dinesh Karthik are the only few experienced batsmen's. Rest depends on the youngsters. But the world class bowling line up will be the only advantage for the team. Especially, the spin order led by Sunil Narine. Addition of England all rounder Tom Curran will be a good partner for Andre Russell in the middle order and bowling. For the captain, it will be a challenge to take the team to playoffs. The teams journey will depend on the youngsters and foreign players from.
